Truth Be Told:  Understanding Media Literacy in Today's World

Every day, we are exposed to curated media content - deliberate messages conveyed through news outlets, social media, the Internet, books, magazines, music, or films that can shape perceptions and biases.  What is the human cost of these media message that have been designed to be misleading? And how do we learn to better scrutinize this content?

Join us as author and Webster University School of Communications instructor Julie Smith shares her expertise for understanding today's media-saturated world, how to navigate the media landscape, and the need to develop critical thinking skills, especially for young people.   Julie, who has been teaching on the subject since 1997, is the author of Master the Media:  How Teaching Media Literacy Can Save our Plugged-In World and co-host of "What the Media?!!?" podcast on KMOX Radio as part of the station's new media literacy project.  A question-and-answer session will follow Julie's presentation.

All are welcome to attend, including guests!  Please register early.  Attendance is limited.
